Dating: Long Distance
PLEASE READ! Long distance relationships are not what they are portrayed to be. They are not as hard, emotionally draining, or as impossible as people assume. Right now, I am living 3 hours away from my boyfriend (who plays a varsity sport). We see each other once or twice a month. We are both happy, both with room to live our own lives but always being able to catch up at the end of the night. We still love each other, nobody has been unfaithful, and it is relatively easy. The time we spend together is always quality time, and I do not regret staying with him.If you love someone and think you they could be the person for you, go for it. The worst that could happen is that it doesn't work out and you part ways. It is entirely possible, do not give up just because of what you THINK might happen.

Pros of a long distance relationship...
1. The time you spend together is really exciting and precious
2. You have the freedom to be yourself and make friends on your own terms
3. You always have lots to talk about with your S/O because you're apart during the day
4. It tests whether the relationship is really worth it
5. Meeting their new friends means more friends for you!
6. Sex/physical intimacy is so much better when you've been waiting for it
7. It will show you how much your partner really values you
8. You don't need to pick between your friends and partner during the week
9. It helps keep you focused

I hope that this helped anyone that needed to hear it.

Yconic Sold to Data Gathering Company
So I noticed Yconic has been getting worse and worse over the past couple months. Links literally don’t work, all the info seems out of data and loads of other problems so I decided to do some Googling and may have found the answer.

https://twitter.com/JeanMarcLeger1/status/1004793869370785792

It turns out Yconic sold to Canada largest company for polling and market research. I always wondered how much Yconic was selling my data, well now I don’t since it is owned by a company whose only job it seems is to get information from people and sell it to other companies.
Scotiabank #EasyMoneyScholarship Contest
I received an email saying I was a winner of the Scotiabank #EasyMoneyScholarship Contest with a prize of $5000 in cash. The money was supposed to be sent to me through a cheque in the mail around 8-10 weeks since I was awarded in May but I still haven’t received anything. I’ve been trying to get in contact using the information I was given however none of this information is working. I have even tried using the main contact Information such as the phone number given on the Facebook page and it won’t go through. How do I get in contact with Yconic? Why is the contact information I was given defunct?
Haven't gotten osap money yet help!
I went on nslsc's website and they said my grants were disbursed to me on august 31st and sept4th but I still don't have it...  I tried calling them but it was useless because their phone line is just a bot giving out useless suggestions.

I also opted out of the loan option but on the website it says the loan has also been disbursed to my bank account.....

help, idk what to do

Scholarships
Hey guys.

I have been looking for scholarships on scholarshipscanada but I found that, even after updating my profile and putting as many details about myself s possible, a lot of the things that popped up were scholarships that did not apply to me at all. I am having lots of difficulties finding small scholarships (not affiliated with specific universities) that are not usually advertised, but good to apply to

For example, I am applying to the Merit Award which I only heard about through a friend. I wouldn't have known about this scholarship at all otherwise. So if any of you know scholarships like these, please share them.

Here are some things about myself: I am an immigrant from a low income family. I am in lots of extra curricular activities within and outside the school, most are related to charity work and leadership. Not a lot of volunteer hours (maybe 150-200 max) Not heavily involved in athletics, and no musical talent at all. Two part time jobs and my academic average is 98%.

If you know any scholarships I can apply to, especially ones concerning newcomers and whatnot, please please let me know! I need as much money as I can get for tuition.

Thank you so much

How do you repair an iPod Touch that underwent water damage
Hello there, I know this discussion is not related to anything about school or scholarships, but I really need some advice on how to fix an iPod that has water damage.

The iPod is still fully functional, except that the water evaporated behind the backlit screen and I believe some LED lights burned out. Should I continue charging the iPod on a daily basis or would that be dangerous (considering short circuits and stuff alike)?

Also, does soaking the iPod in uncooked white rice overnight help?

OSAP APPLICATION!!!!!! NEED HELP ASAP URGENT
On my OSAP application, it says there is a discrepancy between my basic personal information and records on file. Being the dumb person I am, I entered my preferred name instead of legal name. In addition, I haven't been able to upload my consent forms as the information stated is incorrect (ONLY MY NAME). I contact the financial aid office at my school but they didn't know how to deal with my problem. However, they recommended me to contact the student awards office. I'm unsure of how long they'll take to respond. Can anyone assist me in fixing this problem? Who should I contact to solve this ASAP?

Osap
My parent's have completely cut me off and as a result I am completely financially independent. I still live with them, but I pay taxes to do so, in addition to paying for all of my expenses. As a result, I am not in the best place financially and will be moving away for school in September.  I took a year off school to save up money, but with not being able to work full time and the added cost of tuition i'm really nervous about not being able to afford school. My dad makes a lot of money and because of it I don't get that much in financial aid. Is there any way I can get OSAP to take that into consideration? From what I read you either have to have documented proof that your parent's don't support you (which I don't have)  or not be living with your parent's before school (I can't get an apartment for only two months). I understand if there's not a way because then everyone would say that and try to get more financial aid, but if anyone knows a way I could get them to take my situation into account that would be greatly appreciated!

How can students make money on the side?
I've heard there are websites and companies that allow people to work and make money online. I found a couple of websites that share such opportunities including:

https://www.webemployed.com
https://www.thepennyhoarder.com/

If you know of any other websites then please share. I want to work during my summer holidays and freelance work is always the best option for students.
Canadian Student applying to US for Undergrad
Currently, I am in sophomore year in high school in hopes of attending a post-secondary institution in the US. However, with the social and political environment in the US, I am questioning my decision on whether I should prepare for the US or not. I intend to major in Business/Economics and have a variety of extracurriculars I am involved in (that I actually enjoy)  Don't get me wrong, I will still aim for Canadian universities (Western, Queen's, UofT etc.), but the US seems like a more suitable opportunity for my personal goals of studying abroad.

I understand US universities look at grades from 9-12, but I wouldn't say they were exceptional (average is in the high 80s-low 90s from grade 9 to now). At the same time, financial aid would be necessary for me to pay tuition.

Some schools I'm interested in: Wharton (UPenn), Cornell, Columbia, Yale-NUS (Singapore), USC, UC Berkeley

Is it worth going to the US in your opinion along with spending time doing standardized tests like SAT/ACT and self-studying AP courses? For my junior year, I don't plan on taking any "laboratory sciences" they recommend on Ivy Leagues and top universities. Should I just take one in case?

If there's anyone that is attending college in the US or know anybody studying abroad, feel free to comment on this post! I would like to hear advice and personal experiences of the decision-making process and the difference of low-acceptance rate university. Thank you!

Applying for scholarships during a year off of school
I took a year off of school to save up money and have been trying to apply for scholarships. However, most of them want to know what i'm currently in, and when I apply online there is never an option for those who are currently not in school but will be in the fall. I was just wondering if I should I select high school student or undergraduate studies in that case?

Laptop for University
Hey guys, I need an upgrade for a new laptop for next year. I am looking particularly at those that are 2 in 1 that can be a sturdy laptop for writing essays and etc. but also one that I can write on for chemistry notes for example (one that comes with a compatible pen would be preferable). A lot of my friends are getting a mac laptop and an ipad that they can write on but I was thinking if there is a 2 in 1 computer that could do both it could be more efficient and potentially cheaper. I want to switch all of my notes to electronic ones and for example in calc/chem it would be difficult to type and in my opinion it would be easier to write the equations and math. I am going into BMSc (Medical Science) and my courses for next year would be chem, physics, bio, calc, and probably music and a language as an elective. With that in mind, please leave all your suggestions and recommendations bellow and even a warning on what not to get. I would really appreciate it!!!

Offering help with "pre-med" university program + scholarship apps
Hey all!
I used yconic a whole lot when I was in high school so I thought I'd give back now that I am in university and I can relate to the phase of confusion and stress you seniors are going through. I am at the University of Guelph Biomedical Toxicology program (hoping for med school in a few years). I am also the recipient of the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's scholarship (a full scholarship to UoG). Note: I got into Mac iSci and western med sci. I can offer advice related to picking premed programs, app writing tips, or anything in between. Again, it's all going to be personal advice that may not apply to everyone. Ask away!
Do universities look at final grade 12 marks to determine scholarships?
I just received my midterm marks and my overall average is currently 87%. If I bring up my marks by the end of the year, after final exams, will universities still look at them? I already got admitted to my university of choice and am just aiming for a 90% by finals which will allow me to have another 1k in scholarship money.

Thank you!
Scholartree question
are the scholarships posted on scholartree actually trustworthy? And does anyone have any recommendations for scholarships to apply for. Entering first year uni this september.

UK Universities (Business/Economics) LSE,Oxford,UCL,Warwick,Cambridge
Currently, I am in sophomore year in high school in hopes of attending university abroad because of my own personal preference along with wanting to become more independent and explore outside of my comfort zone. I am intending to major in Business/Economics, and the UK seems to attract me based on its geographic location. (LSE, UCL, Oxford, Warwick etc.)

Don't worry, Canadian universities will still be on the top of my list (Ivey, Queen's, Rotman, Schulich)

Does anyone here know about the uni life in the UK or is currently experiencing undergrad at a UK university? If you are Canadian, what were your steps to being admitted (marks, extracurriculars etc.)? Any financial aid or scholarships for international/Canadian students in the UK?  Please share your experiences and/or your peers' thoughts as well!

How to fund my Queen's Commerce Degree
Hi everyone! I got accepted into Queen’s commerce last week and I’m really excited to be going there next year. However, I realize the tuition costs plus living costs are quite high. I’m looking for advice from any upper-year students at Queen’s on how I can best finance my degree.

Here are some tips I gathered just to start things off
1. Rent with friends after the first year to save on residence costs
2. Apply to be a don
3.Buy second-hand textbooks

Now here are some questions I have.
1. What perks do you have if you are a don? Do you get free residence and meal plan? What are the responsibilities?
2. How much cheaper is it to live off residence and rent with friends? Is it realistic to not buy a meal plan? ( Do you have time to actually cook every day for every meal?)
3. I heard Queen’s is less generous with general bursaries compared to admission bursaries. If this is true, how much less is the general bursaries? My dad’s job is in the oil sector so pretty unstable at the moment :( so I got almost the full admission bursary.
4. Are there any upper year scholarships I can apply to later on?
5. I was also accepted into the work-study program with gives you $2000. I’m just wondering how this works and what type of work you have to do? Does doing work study have a negative impact on how much you can study and participate in clubs( which I heard is pretty important for commerce)?
6.I’m interested in management consulting so what can I do to get accepted to join Queen’s consulting club first year?

Thanks for the help everyone! :)

Western National Scholarship 2018
Hey guys,

I am applying for the Western National Scholarship this year and I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has applied/received the award before.

Estimated Average: 95%

Clubs & Sports Teams:
* President of Debate Club
* Founding Member of Diversity Club/Black History Month Committee
* Executive on Enhanced Council
* Member of Athletic Council
* Captain on Mentor Club (lead a team to guide gr. 9s)
* Played on badminton and table tennis teams for past three years
* Played on basketball team for two years
* Played on lacrosse team for past three years and will be one of the captains this year

Volunteer Experience:
* Teen Advisory Group at public library
* Assist treasurer at church and volunteer chorister
* Done some volunteering with black award shows but only one day events
* Volunteered at a Braids for Aids event (one day event)
* Volunteered at Bollywood Ignite event, led other volunteers to run a child sport area (two days)

Work Experience:
*  Newspaper carrier, 2014 (for 6 months)
* Kitchen assistant, part of YMCA summer work exchange, 2017 (6 weeks, full time)
* Sales associate at the Gap (september 2017 - present)

Do you think I have a chance even though I haven't done a lot of things in my community outside of school? Should I include volunteer experiences that I only did for one day (ie. the award shows, aids event and bollywood event)? And should my essay be formal/rigid or more personal; should I talk about how i feel personally connected to my topic or just treat it like a research paper?

I would love to gain your insight and advice. Thanks
