First Year Engineering at Queens
Hey y'all,

So last year while I was applying for uni, and I saw a thread where a first year student answered questions about the program and talked about how their experience in the program was so far. I found this very helpful at the time in guiding me to choose Queens Eng.

I got into Queen's with a 93 avg, and didn't receive an offer until around mid May. The workload in Eng is intense at first, and the first semester really hits hard. Your marks from highschool will typically dip by 10-30 percent. The workload comes in waves I find: meaning some weeks get intense (usually around mid-terms). Of course this is all manageable, and as long as you don't fall behind, you'll be completely fine. I chose Queen's mainly because of the open first year, as I did not know what type of Engineering I wanted to go into. I have to decide later this month, but I think I'll either go into Chemical Engineering (Biomedical option) or Mechanical Engineering.

If you guys have any questions about Eng, Queen's Eng, Queen's or Uni life in general, I'd be happy to answer.

Queen's Engineering 2019 Acceptances
So right now I have around a 92-93% average.
I'd say my PSE is pretty strong.
I applied in early December.
What do you think my chances are?
Have any of you gotten in?
If so please post your average, if you did a PSE, and the date you got accepted.
Thank you!
UOFT Industrial Engineering Chances?
My average is gonna hover around 93, does anyone know if this is good enough to get into Indy? If you are in Indy what averages did you, or the people in your program, have when they got accepted.

Need help with decision about engineering.
Hi,

I am in my first year of Ryerson Mechanical Engineering. I don't know whether I really like engineering to continue on. I have somewhat of an interest in cars, law, kinesiology and business, but I am unsure still. After the first set of midterms my gpa is lingering around B- to C. In high school I finished with an 86-87% average. Based on my past, can you guys please let me know what is good for me? I need honest advice. I love sports, won spelling bee in my school before and have done multiple volunteering activities. I liked to be involved and don't know whether my workplace in engineering will mostly consist of sitting at a desk or computer. The deadline for returning fees, has passed........ However, I want to live happy.
I think math based courses are okay, but were never my favorite. I loved geography, social studies and law. At the moment my favorite subject is chemistry in engineering. I am willing to work had for my passion, but my passion isn't clear.

Gr 12 Admission average
-Calc 83, went to 77 near end
-Physics 86 final
-Chem 80 (midterm) to 77 near end
-Business 96 (midterm) went to 90 at the end.
-English 86, but the thing here is I have always done well in English until grade 12 (grade 9, 98, grade 10, 97, grade 11, 92)
-Comp sci 88, however I don't enjoy it much
-Advanced Functions 84

Grade 11
-Law 87, my favorite subject
-Physics 81
-Functions 75
-Chem 85
-Tech Design 82
-English 92
-Gym 96 (LOVE THIS)

Gr 10-- I loved financial literacy and business.

I am not really clear about my aptitude, which is the issue, However, English, business and law have been good in the past.
Salary wise I am looking to make at least 90 000 and be happy working. University wise, I would like to attend a good university like Queen's or Mcmaster, or a solid program. I want to be close to home as well (GTA, farthest is Kingston).

Waterloo Mechatronics/Computer Science/Computer Egineering admission chances for 2019
Hello everyone I am going into grade 12 this coming September and I am very scared and nervous of my chances of getting into certain programs/universities that interest me. I am hugely interested in the mechatronics egineering program at University of Waterloo but I would also like to get into computer science or computer egineering program at Waterloo if I were not admitted for mechatronics. Could someone please tell me if I have weak/decent/strong extracurriculars and what would be a good enough average to get into one of the three programs I mentioned.

These are my expected or earned  marks for my courses
Advanced functions - 85%(earned and ik its horrible had a teacher not to my liking who really made it harder on us compared to other teachers)
Calculus and vectors -90% to 95% (expected)
Physics- 90% to 95%(expected)
Chemistry - 90% to 95%(expected)
Computer science - 98% to 100%(expected)
English- 90% to 95%;(expected)
Two spares for 2019 school year

My extracurriculars
-Volunteer at retirement home once a week  for three to four hours to help host or lead mental/physical activities for the elderly that determine if there physical or mental condition is staying the same, improving or getting worse.(almost two years)

- volunteer at a thrift store once a week for four hours where all proceeds and money earned goes to helping animals in need and the towns animal shelter(almost two years)

- job at cineplex movie theatre 2-3 shifts a week with one shift being 8 or more hours(almost one year)

-member of my schools Ecocrew once a week for 1.5 hours (almost two years). We  Help educate students and school about environment while trying to introduce better ways to recycle or get rid of waste at school, organize fundraisers, events and contests and get new eco friendly equipment for school. I am the communications advisor and  make announcements for our school and in charge of the Twitter account (almost two years)

- member of my school chess team practises are once a week for one hour and we participate in various tournaments with other schools (almost two years)

- part of the math club/matheletes at my school  where we meet once a week for 1.5 hours trying to solve various difficult math problems while studying for various  Waterloo math contests like the Euclid and Canadian senior math contests. We also help tutor other kids who might be struggling with their classes. (almost three years)

- will be joining the prom crew for grade 12 which we plan/organize our schools prom also advertising the event and trying to sell tickets.  Will also be joining the av crew were we set up assembly’s for our school by organizing the seating plans, setting up equipment like projectors, sound tech, microphones and lighting.

Other stuff:
Will be writing the Canadian senior math contest, Euclid contest, the Canadian computing contest and will be preparing and hoping to get into atleast top 25% for each. Wrote the Fermat in grade 11 but didn’t do that well.

Which type of engineering is the best?
Oh boy. It's that time of year where we must all choose what program we should try to go into, and never have I ever had so many questions. One question has really got me thinking though, and its which type of engineering is the best. Which gets the best life (salary) and which is the funnest to be in?

Waterloo engineering
So i didn't do as well as i wanted in physics last year (gr.11), i got 80% while everything else is low 90s and high 80s and this year i have physics second semester. Are universities gonna look at last year physics???? if I want to go to waterloo engineering 2019 is this good enough????

Ryerson Mechanical vs. Computer Engineering
Hi,

At the moment I have been admitted to Ryerson Mechanical Engineering and mid-semester I can make a plan change into Ryerson Computer Engineering if I have a 1.67+ GPA. I am really interested in automobiles, control systems and the future age of cars. I can either stay in mechanical engineering and specialize in Mechatronics 3rd/4th year, while I can straight up switch into computer engineering mid-semester. I realize that software jobs are increasing and I can try my best to get into auto-industry through technology advancement in computers. Switching is not that much of a problem because first semester courses are the same for all engineering disciplines. What do you think I should do? I plan on either doing a master in control systems, or automotive engineering and I don't enjoy manufacturing factories too much. My goal is to get into a big company like Porsche or Google and work on cars like Waymo or Tesla.

Thanks.

Side Projects for Waterloo Egineering
For those who applied and were accepted into waterloo egineering particularly for programs like software, computer and mechatronics did you guys have any side projects that you yourself devolped or made that you mentioned on your application  such as apps, video games, websites and robotics like arduino.
Also how did you show  your projects on your application  did you just tell them and the application commitee took your word for it or did you have to , provide them with pics/vids and code really curious on how you guys presented them. Currently I have a few side projects that include video games, a website and with arduino and was wondering the best way to present on application to Waterloo and I feel like your answers could also help others applying to Waterloo and to other universities.
What marks are needed to be accepted to UofT Engineering?
I'm going into grade 12 this fall and I want to know what marks I have to achieve to be accepted into UofT Chemical, Mechanical, Computer or Civil Engineering?

Mechanica vs Computer Engineering to go towards automobile industry.
Hi,
I am an Ontario grade 12 student and choosing between Ryerson mechanical engineering and UOttawa Computer engineering coop. I want to work in the automobile industry as a designer or something good. What should I do as my undergrad? The thing is Uottawa is a better university in general but then again what is better for my interests. As it looks for the future, cars are becoming more electrical, use programming and I think less mechanical. So which undergrad is the best for me. I will pair this up with either an MBA and MSC in automotive to attain my goal. Thanks and I need this reply as soon as possible. I live in Toronto, but for my future will be able to go to Ottawa.
Ask me anyting
I just completed my first year at the University of Toronto - Mechanical engineering. I remember going through yconic regularly even after my offers were out, it was a very helpful resource. I would be happy to help out if anyone has questions.

Urgent Conditional Offer Ryerson HELP
Hi,
Im really stressed at this point because my marks have fallen from midterms. I have gotten into Ryerson Mechanical Engineering with an 85-87% average. Right now I believe my average is around 81-82. Ryerson has given me a conditional offer asking to maintain at least 80 in top 6 and 70 in all other courses. I am confident I can keep at least a 70 but Im afraid my total average may fall. Can someone please advice which course I should apply for in summer school, get an extension from Ryerson or do it at all? I have worked hard and do not want to stay another semester at highschool.

My marks atm are:
1) Final English- 86
2) Final Physics-86
3) Advanced Functions-81-84 (depends on exam before exam was 83)
4) Business-96 at midterms but now prob around 85-90 (assuming 85)
5) Comp Sci- 83+
6) Chemistry- (was 80 before summative but I feel I did poorly on the summative dropping to lets say 73-75)
7) Calculus- (was 79 before summative and again did poorly on the summative (stress))

Thanks, please reply asap as to what courses I should plan for summer school or take it at all.

Program Pre-Requisites
Hi there, I am a grade 12 student graduating this year, however, over time my interests transitioned from business to engineering, and I now require 3 Prerequisite courses that I initially did not. In order to apply for engineering programs at Universities, I need to obtain the following courses:

-Physics 12 U
-Chemistry 12 U
-Calculus 12 U

Unfortunately, I did not take any sciences in grade 11 as I was "set" on working in business, however, that ideology has changed and I now face a new obstacle.

I was wondering if there are any college courses/programs that will provide me with equivalent courses to the one's I listed above. If not, I may just have to take the courses online or at a local private school. Please, if anyone has anything to share, good or bad, I would very much appreciate it. Thank you for listening

Ryerson or UTSC
Hi,
I am a grade 12 student and the admission response deadline is in two days. I am confused between choosing Ryerson mechanical engineering or UTSC NON-COOP management. I was looking forward to getting coop but they didnt offer me that. Also I am on the waitlist for Ryerson computer engineering. I don't mind doing BBA or Engineering and my midterm average was 87%. Is the UTSC management worth it without coop? What are my chances of getting coop at Ryerson and is it a good university? What are my chances of getting into Ryerson computer engineering, my average has dropped after midterms about 3 % and do they look at final? I plan on either working in Canada or moving somewhere in the middle east.

Queen's Engineering 2018 Acceptances
Hello!  I was wondering if any of the high school class of 2018 has heard back from Queen's engineering and if you have, what was your top 5 average?? :)

I was also wondering if I have any chance of being admitted if my marks are....
AP Chemistry: 88% (final)
AP Physics: 92% (in progress)
AP Calculus: 94% (in progress)
English (not AP): 90% (in progress)
AP Statistics (data management): 95% (final)
Average: 91.8%

Edit: turns out I actually have a 92 in physics :))
Also, this doesn't go into the calculation of my average but if it helps I have a final mark of 93% in Advanced Functions

My ECs are decent, and I wrote all my AP's on my PSE so Queen's will know that I took them.  I would say that my PSE is average, maybe slightly above average, although I know that this is very subjective. This was only my first submission average so hopefully I will be able to get it to 92.8% at least by April.  Do you think I could possibly get in?

UPDATE: I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!! (on Feb 28th)
